Description
In 1993, Royal Purple received the Garden Merit Award from Englands Royal Horticultural Society. Tolerates deer, drought, and clay soil. As it gets to its mature size of 15 ft. it makes a very impressive specimen tree. Nothing quite like it for eye-catching sprays of smoke. No serious insect or disease problems, so no spraying required. Long-lasting Summer smoke blooms from May to July. As a hedge, it is a class by itself. (You might even say it makes a nice smoke screen) People will stop to ask what kind of plant it is. Zones 5-8.

- Space plants 6 feet apart for a hedge row or 12 feet apart as a focal point.
